PRESS RELEASE
More Freedom for GAP Dogs: Compulsory Muzzling Laws Abolished
A great step forward in the assimilation of greyhounds into the pet community has taken place, with the abolishing of mandatory muzzling for GAP greyhounds in public.
This has become official through the Animal Management (Cats and Dogs) Act 2008 which was passed in State Parliament on Wednesday, December 3.
As of July 1 2009, we will all be able to enjoy walking our GAP dogs without muzzles. The reputation of greyhounds in the pet community will be improved immeasurably by this Act, and members of the public will see first hand how happy and gentle greyhounds really are.
As members of the GAP community, I am sure you will all enjoy this new-found freedom, while also maintaining the ethos of responsible pet ownership.
Here are some friendly tips to ensure we can enjoy walking our GAP dogs without muzzles for years to come:
Ensure your greyhound is wearing his or her green GAP collar;
Walk your dog with a lead - Off leash areas do not provide a suitable environment for greyhounds.
Thank you all for your continued support of overturning the old muzzle laws - and for your dedication to spreading the word about greyhounds as loving pets!
